100-Year Legacy Lives on at Salem4Youth Ranch

An update from Terry Benge, Executive Director at Salem4Youth

Drug use. Disrespectful attitudes. Disappearance from home. These are the types of behaviors that plague the young men who live at Salem4Youth, a faith-based residential program for troubled youth. But their problems go much deeper than dangerous behavior.

“If a boy leaves here and is just more community capable,” says Terry Benge, executive director, “then we failed, because we’re in a battle for their hearts.” Instead, Terry and his staff aim to plant the seeds of the gospel deeply in their souls and live out Christ’s love for these boys on a daily basis. “They’ve heard that God loves them,” he says, “now they need to see it in action.”

Through a completely revamped, Christ-centered program, Terry’s staff is making a difference. And while some youth exhibit a “fake-it-to-make-it” mentality at first, that gospel message often breaks through that tough exterior. “It’s so incredible to discover the real kid who’s been there all along,” Terry says.
