Highland Bethel Church merges with Gospel Community Church to form a single congregation
On August 31, 2014, Highland Bethel Church of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a longtime FEC church, merged with Gospel Community Church, also of Fort Wayne and newly associated with FEC, to form a single congregation—Highland Gospel Community Church.
Pastors Nate Schumacher and Jeff Bower knew God’s hand was in the union right from the start. “Jeff’s congregation was needing a new place to worship,” says Nate, “and I’ve been praying about ways our congregation could grow.” One three-hour meeting later, and both men could see God working in a unique way. “What has been exciting to watch through this process,” says Jeff, “is how much more effective we have already been as we complement each other’s strengths. We really can get a lot more done together.”
