A Message from Rocky Rocholl, FEC President

I recently had the chance to watch the movie Saving Christmas by Kirk Cameron. As I walked out of the theater, I realized how often we as Christians are seen as the big “Bah Humbugs” of Christmas—fighting for the expression “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays,” or picketing the courthouse lawn because they stopped displaying a nativity scene. I wonder if, in defending the name of Jesus, we are actually hurting his cause? After all, why would we expect people without belief to embrace faith-filled expressions of the holidays? What makes Christianity distinct from any other religion is the love Jesus showed us, and the love we should be sharing with others. Please don’t misunderstand. I would never advocate that we endorse anything contrary to scripture. But during the Christmas season, we have a lot of freedom to be the blessing to our communities that we’re called to be. This year, rather than being “angry gatekeepers,” let’s embrace the joy and spirit of the season and be “difference makers” instead.
