Community Outreach Starts Young at Bethel Mennonite Church

Bethel Mennonite Church is known throughout Morgan County, Missouri—one of the poorest counties in the state—for its community outreach. Recently, a new generation has taken up that torch, and they’re starting young. As early as third through sixth grade, 10–12 young people volunteer at the community food pantry once a month, doing everything from handing out food, stacking pallets, helping the elderly load food into their cars, and cleaning up.

“We’ve received many comments about how well-behaved and helpful the kids are,” says David Zapf, pastor. “And the kids have told us they didn’t realize there were so many people—over 750 each month—who need food. They’re really growing up with the idea that we’re called to serve others as Christ has served us.” To learn more about the ministries at Bethel Mennonite Church, visit their website at http://www.bethelmennchurch.org.
