Rocky Rocholl, president, recaps high points from Behold convention

I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating. This is an exciting time to be part of the Fellowship of Evangelical Churches! A quick glance at the highlights from our recent convention more than supports this statement, and for several good reasons. First, five new churches joined our fellowship. Please join me in giving a big FEC welcome to:

Four of these were recent FEC church plants that are now fully functioning churches! I must say that I have a “proud grandparent” feeling to see these churches thrive after so little time. It’s also exciting to join forces with Evermore Community Church, whose vision and mission line up so well with our own. In addition, we were able to invite five other existing churches currently in the searching process to our convention to see what we’re all about.

But that’s not all. Even as we increase our numbers, it is always a blessing to me to see our churches join together each year in corporate worship. Each of our worship sessions ministered to me as we came together in unity. In fact, from the pre-convention workshop until our last session, I felt that sense of unity in heart and purpose. Our pre-convention workshop, Posture Shift, really set the tone for the entire conference. Whether we’re talking with people who live next door, those from other cultures, or people who identify as LGBT+, we learned that we can still have a voice if we come with the right posture. Jesus confronted terrible sin but was not offensive in his person. We have to think like that if we are going to earn the right to be heard. Only then will people hear the life-changing message of freedom that Jesus offers.

Which brings us to next year. Yes, we’ve already set the date, so please mark your calendars for August 3 – 5 and plan to join us at Grace Church in Morton, Illinois, where we’ll explore the theme of Freedom, discovering how we live a life of freedom in Christ and offer it to others.
