Doors of Opportunity Swing Wide in West Africa

An update from the West Africa Initiative Team

“You have word from the Big Creator. Please come back soon and tell us these stories!” That’s what the West Africa initiative team is hearing from Yalunka villages in Mali. In fact, each of the 15 villages where the team has established relationships is sharing additional villages nearby that need to hear the message of reconciliation and personal relationships with the creator God.

They don’t have long to wait. As soon as the rivers are down this coming January, Troy and Gerri Masters, along with Ashley Freytag, will be heading that way, armed with their newly acquired Yalunka language skills and a love for the people they plan to teach. Through the oral translation of scripture, they’ll be sharing the whole Gospel message to village storytellers soon.

But that’s not the only good news. Another couple on the West Africa initiative team, Michael and Jenn Sprunger, is finishing their French training in Dakar and will be moving out to Yalunka land by the end of this year, joining their teammates in reaching the Yalunka people for Christ. In addition, both New Tribes Mission and the Summer Institute of Linguistics are inviting the team to consider working with them in bringing the Gospel message to other language groups as well.

With such wide open doors for ministry, Steve Nelson and the team are praying that God will raise up more people to commit their lives to the oral translation of God’s word and establish reproducing communities of Christ followers in West Africa.
