How Discovery Bible Studies Are Making a Difference in Basque Country

“I think—no, I KNOW—that this is the first time I have thought about God on Christmas.”

These words, spoken by a self-professed agnostic, are just one example of changes taking place in people’s hearts and minds in Basque country. After interacting with our team in a Discovery Bible Study for several months, this man and his wife have encountered a whole new world, one that started with a simple question about our team’s beliefs.

“When they asked us what we believe, the door was wide open for us to share very naturally what it means for us to be Christians,” says one team member. “We explained that our faith is a daily walk with God. We also talked about our own Bible study with our children here at home.” At this point, the Basque couple asked if they could join in this Bible study, because they want their five-year-old daughter to learn about the Bible, but they don’t know how to teach her if they don’t know themselves.

Since then, the couple has been studying scripture eagerly, to the point that the husband admits he is ashamed that he has never read the Bible for himself until now. “He has come to realize he must reconsider what it really means to believe,” says our team member. “What is it that we’re doing here?” he asked. “I know I’m not Catholic, but what are we?” Our team responded that they refer to themselves as “believers.” His response? “Believer, I like that.” Please continue to pray that God will continue to work in people’s hearts and minds through our Basque team.
