Ah, fall! Don’t you love the leaves changing colors, the cool air rushing in, and the thought of that first snowfall. Here in Senegal, the fall is a little different. Leaves do fall, but our mango tree is still green, the cool air is not rushing in (Mid 90’s daytime), and there will be NO snow falling, I don’t think! 🙂

All this to say that life is very different here than back in Ohio in relation to our environment. But, even though it appears very different, the people are people just like you and me. In fact, they are very kind and helpful. Both Gerri and I have found people to help us with language, Gerri has found a great Yalunka lady (Bintu) to help with the house ( she has also been a good language help!), and Troy has gone to the fields with Tano, one of our neighbors.

Sharing the Gospel is about building relationships. In the midst of everything that is different here, it is a comfort to know that we can still do our work as Christians, since that is what it is all about; Relationships with a purpose, whether in Ohio, Senegal, Mali, or the ends of the earth. God has planted us here, and he continues to provide open doors for the work to be done here. (Acts 1:8)

There are many things that still need to be done. Language is progressing, but at times it appears to be going very slowly. Many of the words are very similar sounding. Figuring out life as a family is at times difficult, as language and cultural barriers have yet to be hurdled. The kids are adjusting to this year of school despite the many changes in life around them. We have team-mates here and in Dakar, and in the U.S. We know that it is all in God’s timing, and we are eagerly working towards having our whole team in Africa, and moving into the more advanced phases of the ministry here. We know that on the road there lies many challenges, difficulties, decisions, sweat, tears, and, of course, joys. We look forward to facing each one in the strength of our Lord.(Isaiah 40:31)

Thank you for your part in this ministry! It is a vital part as we are all part of the Body of Christ. No one part can function properly without the help of the others! (1 Cor. 12:12-27)
