IMPACTING DESHLER, OHIO

Gospel transformation sweeps through small town

“We have no desire to change people; we want to teach people the Gospel, and the Gospel changes them.” Alex Ruhter is feeling encouraged and excited about the real-life change that Wave Community Church is experiencing in Deshler, Ohio. Since Wave Community launched on Easter of 2015 in collaboration with FEC’s Tri-State Co-Op, they have seen God move in tremendous ways throughout their congregation and community alike. “For our Christmas Eve service this past year, we had our highest attendance to date. We also had six to seven straight weeks of unplanned baptisms at the end of 2016,” Alex reported.

Wave Community Church seeks to be a place for those who want nothing to do with church. “We go find people instead of waiting for them to come to church,” Alex says, ‘We desire to be a presence in the community, but the majority of life-change we’ve witnessed has primarily occurred in small home groups.’” Through movies on the lawn, a summer kids’ camp, after-school outreach, letters to soldiers, and more, Wave Community Church is transforming this small town through the power of Jesus Christ.

Because Deshler is such a small town, there were not many options of places in which Wave Community could meet. This forced Wave Community Church to find a permanent location sooner than planned. In December of 2016, Wave Community purchased an old hardware store, and renovation has begun. Phase 1 of renovation will occur in 2017, and Phase 2 is scheduled to occur in 2018. A building just a few doors down was also donated to Wave Community Church. Wave Community plans to use this property as a homeless ministry. This ministry will provide toiletries, food, and potentially housing later down the road.

Deshler has a large population who wrestle with various addictions. Wave Community Church is seeking to impact this community of individuals through the process of outreach and discipleship. Dillon, a young man whom Alex led to the Lord, has greatly used his experience with addiction to reach those who remain enslaved. Wave Community is interacting with these individuals on a regular basis. Please continue to pray for Wave Community Church as they minister to the people of Deshler, Ohio.
