Know someone with a passion for inner-city outreach who needs some extra training and experience? The Residency House at Mission Church in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana, might be just what that person needs! In exchange for free rent in a two-bedroom, two-bath house, the resident would be responsible for developing a passion-driven ministry at Mission Church for a minimum of one year. Possible ministries include teaching English as a second language, tutoring, coaching, even sewing or mending clothes. Tim Stauffer, pastor, explains. “The nature of the talent is less important than the passion to serve Christ through it. If you love to do it, and if it can give you the opportunity to share the gospel message, you might be a good candidate for this program.”

This residency program is an ideal option for someone who is interested in urban ministry but is not able—for a variety of reasons—to go oversees as a long-term missionary right now. In addition to developing a ministry, the resident would also have the opportunity to work alongside Mission Church pastors in every aspect of urban ministry. “FEC is very interested in finding a candidate within the FEC footprint,” says Tim. “After pouring a year into ministry under the supervision and guidance of our leadership team, this person will be so much better suited for an inner-city church plant or missions experience.” It is important to note that the resident would be expected to raise enough funding to cover utilities, personal expenses, and activities—either through fund raising, home church sponsorship, partial outside employment, or grants.
