“If you open a door, we’re going to take a step through.” This was Andy Wesner and his wife Sarah’s prayer, when God led them to Grace Community Fellowship in Hillsboro, Kansas.

Andy’s previous career path as a math teacher, coach, and school counselor for 10 years eventually stirred his heart toward serving the local church. Returning to school, Andy received his Master of Divinity and planted a church in Colorado. His family made the move and served with the church plant from 2021 to 2025, when three new prayers came to mind for Andy and his wife:

“God, where do you want us?”

“Help us to trust that that’s going to be the best place for our family.”

“Lord, wherever that is, give us a great passion for the people there.”

Within two months, Andy received a call from an elder at Grace Community Fellowship and began a conversation. GCF was going through its own transition as the pastor was stepping down. Andy joined as the new lead pastor and began his role in June with a commissioning service led by both FEC and the local elders.

“God has been at work throughout this whole process”, Andy says. His children are making meaningful connections through mission trips and the youth group. He is experiencing discipleship through connections with people. Andy also sees that the congregation is “eager to go deeper in their relationship with the Lord and to be on mission in our community and our county.”
