For the third year running, FEC churches from Fort Wayne and Kendallville unleashed a small army of volunteers throughout their cities, ready to serve in Jesus’ name. On August 27, 2017, 1,352 volunteers from six FEC churches in Fort Wayne, and 11 area churches in Kendallville, participated in Engage Sunday, where they washed cars, weeded, and walked the streets in prayer. Still others painted and raked or mowed and mulched at multiple locations in both cities.

New this year was a partnership with Generosity Feeds. By some estimates, 47% of children and families in Allen County still struggle with hunger. Working together at two different locations, churches in Fort Wayne packaged over 20,000 meals for area children. “The coolest part of Generosity Feeds is that the meals stay local,” says Phil Amburgey, director of family ministry at Pine Hills City Church. According to Phil, who personally delivered meals to a local family, “the meals are super tasty—and super easy to make.”

As always, projects for Engage Sunday were many and varied, but all were united by one common goal—getting people out of the church building and into the community, meeting needs in tangible ways. Again this year, the day culminated in one giant worship service in each city, where everyone came together in a spirit of celebration and camaraderie.
