Church internship is a unique opportunity for a young person to develop ministry and leadership skills. It’s also a way to disciple the next generation of leadership in the church. Launching its first internship this summer, The Remedy in Reading, Michigan is investing in Ariana Wagler through weekly mentoring, serving, and leadership training.
Some of the responsibilities Ariana does during this three-month internship are leading a Bible study for teens and young adults, helping to lead worship on Sunday mornings, connecting with church and community members, and missions. Ariana recently joined the Remedy team on a service trip to Ethiopia to support and serve an orphanage.
Jared Bignell, the lead pastor at The Remedy, says the church has been commissioning at least one ministry leader each year since the church’s inception in 2015. “We want to be a ‘stream’ and not a ‘reservoir’ of ministry talent and godly leadership for the kingdom,” says Jared. “This internship program is the next logical step toward that goal.”
Each week, Ariana meets with Pastor Jared’s wife, Randi Bignell, the Discipleship Director, for mentorship and studying spiritual disciplines. Ariana finds the wise leadership at The Remedy encouraging. “It is beautiful to get to make more relationships with more people throughout the church as I explore ministry myself. I am excited to see where this internship leads me in my faith and in my purpose in God’s plan.”
“Young people are shaping their beliefs and deciding who to be based on their understanding of God and themselves,” says Randi. “I love leading young people to the heart of God and his Word in these formative years.” She is excited about Ariana and her peers at The Remedy as they continue to develop their critical thinking skills, grounding them in God’s word.
