The people of Harvest Bible Church in Ellsworth, Kansas, want to be a part of change in their community and transformed lives. One way they have engaged the Ellsworth community is hosting the local food bank in their building.

The church’s partnership with the community food bank goes back seven years, and they have hosted them in their building for at least five years. Pastor Marc Compton has had some spiritual discussions with people who have come to the food bank through the years. He said, “Having people come into the church for the food bank is what we want. It’s hard for some people to come into a church, so getting them to come across this threshold for any reason is a win.”

The local food bank isn’t the only way that they engage with the community. Church members took part in the Ellsworth Cancer Walk to raise money and show their community that they care about them. The church also plans to participate in community festivals and parades this summer. Pastor Marc Compton said, “There’s no point in starting new things if things are already going on that we can engage in.” That isn’t a surprising view of community engagement since Harvest Bible Church was formed from two churches that came together in 2013. They joined FEC in 2020.
