What is the theme for conference?
Rocky Rocholl, FEC President shared this regarding the 2020 theme: “In Psalm 139, David invites the Lord to search his heart and mind, and then to lead him in the way that he should go (the way everlasting). My prayer is that this week DEEPER will accomplish that same sort of work in each of us. We are all vulnerable and we all have blind spots that are keeping us from being as healthy and effective as we might otherwise be for the Kingdom. My hope is for all to be more aware, more sensitive to His voice, and thereby strengthened and better prepared to be His ambassadors to our broken world. Healthy leaders lead healthy churches that can transform our lost and hurting world.”

Schedule

Thursday

  • 10:00 – 11:00 AM – Session #1 – De/Formation
Why Going “Deeper” is Harder than Ever
We are living in unprecedented times, yet we’re reminded “since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart” (2 Corinthians 4:1). Today, more than ever, leaders need to be prepared for and understand more deeply the fragmentation that continues to pull everything apart.
  • 11:00 – 11:15 AM – Break (on your own)
  • 11:15 – 12:00 noon – Session #2 – Formation
    Where Going “Deeper” Must Happen
We know that growth and discipleship must be at the center of living our lives like Jesus lived, but it’s no accident that scripture tells us that “Jesus grew in wisdom, and in stature, and in favor with God and with people” (Luke 2:52). In order to grow deeper, we must pay attention to at least six dimensions of our lives that can bring a depth we’ve never experienced before.

  • 12:00 – 1:30 PM – Lunch (on your own)
  • 1:30 – 2:30 PM – Session #3 – Trans/Formation
How Going “Deeper” Changes the Way We See Everything

Once we’ve paid attention to the parts, we can then begin to see how understanding the whole is the way the Bible has described going deeper all along. We’ll see how an Old Testament concept and the words of Jesus provide the perspective we need to see everything in a whole new light.
  • 2:30 – 2:45 PM – Break
  • 2:45 – 3:45 PM – Q & A discussion – Michael Bischof & Tom Bennardo

Friday

  • 10:00 AM – Business sessions and discussions

Speaker

Dr. Michael G. Bischof (M.Div., D.Min.) is Founder and President of SOULeader Resources which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2020. After experiencing the pain of ministry and ending up in eight months of clinical depression, God called him to come alongside Christian leaders to bring encouragement and resources that would help them finish well.

Michael uses his experience both nationally and internationally through coaching, consulting, training, and writing in many types of organizations such as churches, non-profits, denominations, seminaries, missions agencies, and businesses. He addresses a variety of topics on formation from a holistic perspective – spiritual, emotional, relational, mental, physical, cultural & missional. His passion is self-awareness and integration of all the dimensions of the person and how this impacts leadership and spiritual growth.

Born and raised in Southern California, Michael has spent over 30 years pastoring and leading in eight churches and three para-church organizations. He has been a Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, Interim Pastor, Small Groups Pastor, Youth Pastor, Church Planter, and Executive Director. While he used to think he couldn’t hold a job very long, he now knows God was providing the experience to empathize with a lot of different roles. He is Affiliate Assistant Professor of Christian Spirituality & Ministry at Fuller Theological Seminary and Adjunct Professor at Azusa Pacific University.

He has been married to Darlene for 35 years and has two grown children. His hobbies are reading, travel, and snowboarding.
