Toledo, Ohio, [test] has welcomed generations of immigrants, especially from the Middle East. And now, a new FEC church, New Life, or Hayat Jadida (in Arabic), seeks to build relationships with Arab people in the Toledo area. They meet people by hosting unique events and Friday-night gatherings in a home. Pastors Mark Clausing and Nashwan Saadoon build relationships by “visiting people in their homes, meeting them one-on-one, letting them ask questions, and showing them love and honor.” Mark explained that “when a relationship has been built, we are able to share the truth about Jesus with them.”

New Life’s most recent event celebrated the New Year on December 31. At least nine countries were represented. Celebrating together, the group counted down to each country’s new year, and a New Life team member prayed a blessing over it. Mark said, “The people there were touched that we were willing to celebrate with them and where they come from.” Nashwan emphasized that “the purpose of this all other events is to build trust and show them love because ‘God is love.’”

Another important part of their ministry is prayer. Mark said, “The highlight of our team is gathering to pray. Some of the biggest moments have been preceded by prayer.” As Arabs enter Ramadan, the month-long period of introspection and fasting beginning this year on March 22, the New Life team will increase their “prayer game.” Mark and Nashwan are asking “for the Holy Spirit to come in power through dreams and healing during Ramadan.”
