FEC Internship Program Offers Training Options for Teens and Twenty-Somethings

If you’ve been attending an FEC church lately, you’re probably familiar with our residency programs, where we equip potential church planters for future ministry. But did you know we offer a training program for younger leaders as well? We call it the FEC Internship Program, and it’s a great way for churches to help teens and college students explore ministry options within the context of the local church.

During our first year of operation, five different FEC churches took advantage of this internship program, training 25 interns in everything from children’s ministry and worship production to IT operations and church administration. “Our goal is to create an opportunity for young people to explore areas of ministry that interest them by working alongside a more seasoned ministry leader,” says Nate Zimmerman, FEC office administrative director. A monthly stipend is available to help churches offset training expenses, too. “Churches can use this money however they want,” says Nate, “whether that’s buying resources, reimbursing supervisors, or even paying the intern.”

In order to qualify, interested churches need to develop a plan for the internship and submit it to the FEC office for review. In addition, each participating church needs to submit a follow-up report. “That way,” says Nate, “if an intern does a great job, we have a ready pool of talented individuals to help meet future needs.” To learn more about this internship program or to apply for funds, please contact Nate Zimmerman at 260.423.3649.
